This is how the Delta Platform works

The Delta Platform involves experts from universities of applied sciences, research universities, research institutes, companies and governmental bodies in complex delta issues. The platform supports i.a. articulation of demand, the formation of knowledge clusters and the development of, for example, a research project. The method consists of the following steps.

1) Integral exploration of delta questions
The starting point is a complex question from the delta sector, which requires a comprehensive approach. For example, safety, ecology and economy. The Delta Platform provides a platform for this question and involves experts from various disciplines to further explore the question. The intention is to identify the underlying question or broaden the scope of the question. This phase of demand articulation will provide new insights or subquestions.

2) Formation of knowledge clusters
The Delta Platform forms knowledge clusters around the insights and subquestions, consisting of experts from universities of applied sciences, research universities, research institutes, companies and governmental bodies. These clusters start projects, often in the form of applied research.

3) Practical support in the elaboration
The Delta Platform supports the projects. This includes drawing up a plan of approach, facilitating cooperation, assisting in applying for funding and reporting, etc ....

Delta education is closely involved

Lecturer-researchers and senior researchers are involved in the delta cases. From their area of expertise they contribute to the integral approach to the complex question. In addition, they involve students in the case at hand, or they incorporate the insights into their curriculum.
Through this living labs (context-oriented learning environment) the acquired delta expertise directly flows back into the education and thus the delta professionals of the future are educated. The living labs also work as a catalyst for innovation.
