The innovation network Living Lab Schouwen-Duiveland wants to work with agricultural entrepreneurs to find innovative solutions for complex challenges in the areas of water, food, education and administration. Governments, knowledge institutions, agricultural organizations and agricultural entrepreneurs are joining forces.

By experimenting and pioneering together, they work in perspective-rich projects on solutions to urgent issues such as the lack of fresh water. They do this by developing, testing and sharing knowledge. This knowledge is ultimately translated into practical application, entrepreneurs or site managers can participate in projects of the living lab. These projects range from monitoring the salinity of the water, field labs, quick scans to soil and water coaching in collaboration with ZLTO.

A budget has also been reserved to actually get started with physical measures in the area via investment vouchers. Contact the living lab to participate. The exploratory intake interviews take place in June and July.

In addition to these innovative solutions for sufficient freshwater availability, there is scope for research into new sweet, salty and saline crops on land and studies in the field of sustainable food production outside the dikes. This includes opportunities for seaweed cultivation and shellfish farming and combinations thereof, and research into the creation of favorable location conditions for salt food and raw materials production and the processing of end products within the dikes.

In the projects, a major role is reserved for educational innovation, the connection of education and practice and the connection between successive learning tracks, as well as for administrative innovation and connection. Three consecutive dry years show how vulnerable we are to drought and climate change. The living lab is developing a long-term approach for sustainable and vital agriculture under a changing climate, with a focus on robust nature.
